Overview

OraRinse is a mucoadhesive oral paste formulation of **amlexanox**, a small molecule benzopyrano-bipyridine carboxylic acid derivative. It possesses anti-inflammatory and antiallergic properties and is primarily indicated for the treatment of **recurrent aphthous ulcers** (canker sores). The drug functions by inhibiting the release of inflammatory mediators (such as histamine and leukotrienes) from mast cells, neutrophils, and mononuclear cells, and it also exhibits antagonistic effects on **interleukin-3**. Clinically, OraRinse has been shown to abort the onset of ulcers, accelerate the healing process, and resolve associated pain. Beyond its oral mucosal applications, the active ingredient has been investigated for its potential in treating atopic diseases, including allergic asthma and allergic rhinitis.
