Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Orasol Plus is a multi-ingredient mouthwash specifically developed to prevent and manage oral stomatitis, a common side effect in cancer patients treated with mTOR inhibitors like everolimus. Developed through a collaboration involving the Italian Nephro-Oncology Group (GION), the formulation combines several botanical extracts—including *Salvia officinalis*, *Commiphora myrrha*, *Krameria triandra*, and *Chamomilla recutita*—with sodium bicarbonate, xylitol, and *Aloe vera*. It functions by creating a protective barrier over the oral mucosa, providing anti-inflammatory and antiseptic effects, and maintaining optimal oral pH. The efficacy of Orasol Plus was notably evaluated in the STOP trial, a prospective, randomized study which demonstrated its ability to significantly reduce the incidence and severity of everolimus-induced oral lesions compared to standard oral hygiene alone.
