Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Oraxin is an oral fixed-dose combination appetite stimulant developed and marketed by Centaur Pharmaceuticals. It is formulated as a syrup or drops and is primarily indicated for the treatment of loss of appetite, undernutrition, anorexia nervosa, and weight loss, particularly in pediatric patients. The medication contains cyproheptadine, an antihistamine and antiserotonergic agent that stimulates appetite by blocking serotonin receptors in the hypothalamus; tricholine citrate, a lipotropic and bile acid-binding agent that supports liver function and fat metabolism; and sorbitol, which serves as a syrup base and osmotic laxative to prevent constipation. Together, these components work synergistically to promote hunger, improve digestion, and support healthy weight gain.
