Orbifloxacin is a synthetic, broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic used exclusively in veterinary medicine. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections in dogs and cats, including urinary tract infections (cystitis), skin and soft tissue infections (such as wounds and abscesses), and respiratory tract infections caused by susceptible organisms. Orbifloxacin acts by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase, an enzyme essential for DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination. This disruption prevents bacteria from multiplying and leads to cell death. The drug is bactericidal against a wide range of gram-negative and gram-positive organisms[1][3][4][5][6].
