Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lidocaine (ORE001) is an oral small molecule formulation of the well-known local anesthetic and antiarrhythmic agent lidocaine, being developed by Orexa for the prevention and treatment of postoperative ileus. Unlike traditional uses of lidocaine (as an injectable or topical anesthetic), ORE001 is administered orally to modulate gastrointestinal function after surgery. Its mechanism involves inhibition of sodium channels, modulation of cell membrane permeability, and possible opioid receptor agonism. The drug aims to increase food intake and support recovery in patients post-surgery by reducing gastrointestinal disturbances that can delay recovery[1][3][4][5].
