Overview

Oregovomab is a murine monoclonal antibody that targets the tumor-associated antigen CA125 (also known as mucin 16), which is commonly overexpressed and shed by human ovarian cancer cells[1][2][3]. By binding to CA125, oregovomab forms immune complexes that can prime dendritic cells and stimulate both cellular and humoral immune responses, including T-cell activation against tumor cells expressing CA125[2][3]. This immunotherapeutic approach aims to enhance the body's own ability to recognize and destroy ovarian cancer cells. Oregovomab is being developed primarily for epithelial ovarian cancer, but also for fallopian tube and peritoneal cancers[3][7]. It has orphan drug status for ovarian cancer and is currently in phase III clinical trials in combination with chemotherapy agents such as carboplatin and paclitaxel[6][7].
