Overview
Oren-gedoku-to (also known as Huanglian-Jiedu-Tang) is a traditional Japanese Kampo medicine composed of four medicinal herbs: Coptis Rhizome, Scutellaria Root, Phellodendron Bark, and Gardenia Fruit. It is traditionally used to treat inflammatory conditions, hypertension, gastritis, and various skin disorders. In modern clinical research, it is being investigated for its potential to prevent rebleeding in patients with colonic diverticular bleeding (CDB). The formulation contains several bioactive alkaloids and flavonoids, such as berberine, palmatine, baicalin, and geniposide, which contribute to its anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative, and vascular-stabilizing effects. It is regulated as a pharmaceutical product in Japan and is typically administered as oral granules.
