ORG-31710 is a synthetic small molecule that acts as a selective progesterone receptor antagonist (antiprogestin). It is structurally related to mifepristone, specifically described as the 17-spirofuran analogue of mifepristone. ORG-31710 was developed for potential use in contraception, induction of labor, and other gynecological indications. Its mechanism involves antagonism at the progesterone receptor, thereby inhibiting progesterone-mediated physiological processes such as ovulation and endometrial receptivity. Preclinical studies demonstrated its ability to inhibit ovulation and blastocyst-endometrial attachment in vitro[1][2][5][6]. Clinical trials showed it could induce vaginal bleeding when administered during the luteal phase[10]. Development was discontinued after early-phase clinical trials.
