Org 42675 is a synthetic, dual-acting antithrombotic agent belonging to the class of heparin-mimetic oligosaccharides. Developed by Organon, it was engineered to overcome the limitations of single-target anticoagulants by inhibiting both Factor Xa and Thrombin (Factor IIa). Its mechanism involves the high-affinity binding to antithrombin (AT) to catalyze the inhibition of Factor Xa, and simultaneous binding to heparin cofactor II (HCII) to catalyze the inhibition of thrombin. This dual-action profile was hypothesized to offer a broader therapeutic window and enhanced efficacy in preventing both venous and arterial thrombosis. Clinical development appears to have been discontinued.
