Orientin is a naturally occurring **flavonoid** of the **flavone** class, specifically the 8-C-glucoside of luteolin. It is widely found in various plants such as bamboo leaves, passion flower, basil, and fenugreek, as well as in foods like buckwheat, wild rice, and millet[1][2][6][9]. Orientin exhibits multiple bioactivities, including strong antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, cardioprotective, neuroprotective, antidepressant-like, anti-adipogenesis, antinociceptive, antibacterial, and antiviral effects[1][3][5][7]. Notably, orientin suppresses the TLR4/NF-kappa B signaling pathway, leading to anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective actions[1][4]. It also inhibits pro-inflammatory cytokines (such as IL-6 and TNF-α), modulates oxidative stress biomarkers, and affects inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and COX-2 expression[1]. Extensive preclinical research has explored its role in cardiovascular disease, neuropathic pain, diabetes, aging, and cancer[1][3][4][7]. Although traditionally used in herbal remedies for infections, stress, and inflammatory ailments, orientin is most commonly utilized as a dietary supplement or in research settings rather than as a registered pharmaceutical agent[5][7].
