Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Orlenzia is an oral small molecule medication developed by Ambrezzia Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of obesity and diabetic obesity. It contains orlistat, a potent and specific long-acting inhibitor of gastrointestinal lipases. The drug works by forming a covalent bond with the active serine site of gastric and pancreatic lipases in the lumen of the stomach and small intestine. This inactivation prevents the enzymes from hydrolyzing dietary fat (triglycerides) into absorbable free fatty acids and monoglycerides, thereby reducing caloric absorption and promoting weight loss. Orlenzia is specifically positioned as a weight management solution for obese diabetic patients.
