Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Orlip X is a branded generic oral formulation of orlistat, developed and marketed by Precia Pharma for the management of obesity. As a potent, specific, and long-acting lipase inhibitor, it exerts its therapeutic activity in the lumen of the stomach and small intestine by forming a covalent bond with the active serine site of gastric and pancreatic lipases. The inactivated enzymes are thus unavailable to hydrolyze dietary fat, in the form of triglycerides, into absorbable free fatty acids and monoglycerides. This reduction in fat absorption helps in weight reduction and maintenance. It is typically administered orally three times daily with meals containing fat and is available in 60 mg tablets and 120 mg capsules.
