Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ormocarpum cochinchinense leaf extract is a botanical extract derived from the leaves of the *Ormocarpum cochinchinense* plant, a member of the Fabaceae family native to Southeast Asia and other tropical regions. Colloquially known as 'Elumbotti' (meaning 'bone-knit') in Tamil traditional medicine, the extract is traditionally used for bone setting and fracture healing. Preclinical studies demonstrate that the extract promotes osteogenesis and bone fracture healing by modulating key bone-related genes and signaling pathways. Specifically, it upregulates the expression of sex steroid receptors (androgen receptor, estrogen receptors alpha and beta), runt-related transcription factor 2 (Runx2), type I collagen, and osteocalcin, while downregulating osteoprotegerin (Opg) and receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa B ligand (Rankl). It also activates the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway and suppresses the NF-κB pathway, leading to increased bone formation and reduced bone resorption.
