Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ormutivimab is a recombinant human anti-rabies monoclonal antibody developed for post-exposure prophylaxis of rabies. It functions by providing passive immunity against the rabies virus, neutralizing the virus particles, and preventing their attachment to and penetration into host cells. This offers immediate protection during the critical period before the body's immune system can mount an active response from a rabies vaccine. Ormutivimab is being developed as a safer alternative to plasma-derived Human Rabies Immune Globulin (HRIG), aiming to mitigate risks associated with serum allergic reactions and blood-transmitted infectious diseases.
