Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Orsiro is an ultra-thin strut, sirolimus-eluting coronary stent system developed for the treatment of coronary artery disease. It features a unique hybrid design that combines a passive proBIO coating, which encapsulates the cobalt-chromium metal stent to minimize ion release, and an active BIOlute biodegradable polymer coating. The BIOlute coating provides a controlled release of the antiproliferative drug sirolimus, which inhibits neointimal hyperplasia to prevent restenosis. The biodegradable polymer is designed to be fully resorbed within 12 to 24 months, eventually leaving behind a biocompatible bare metal stent. Orsiro has demonstrated clinical efficacy and safety across a broad range of patient populations, including those with stable angina and acute coronary syndromes such as ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI).
