Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Orthosiphonis folium extract is a standardized herbal preparation derived from the dried leaves and stem tips of *Orthosiphon stamineus* (also known as *Orthosiphon aristatus*). Recognized in the European Pharmacopoeia, the extract contains a complex mixture of active constituents, including lipophilic flavones such as sinensetin, eupatorin, and scutellarein, as well as rosmarinic acid and various triterpenes. It is primarily utilized for its diuretic, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties, specifically for the irrigation of the urinary tract in cases of bacterial infections, inflammatory diseases, and kidney gravel. The diuretic mechanism involves enhanced ion excretion, which has been compared to the action of loop diuretics like furosemide. Beyond its primary urological indications, traditional uses include the management of hypertension, diabetes, and hyperlipidemia.
