Os-Sh1 is a novel organometallic bis-amidine osmium complex developed as an anti-proliferative agent for the treatment of cancer. It was designed to overcome resistance associated with traditional platinum-based chemotherapies like cisplatin. Os-Sh1 exerts its cytotoxic effects by inducing G0/G1 cell cycle arrest and triggering the intrinsic mitochondrial pathway of apoptosis, evidenced by the cleavage of caspase-9, caspase-3, and poly-ADP ribose polymerase (PARP). In preclinical studies, it demonstrated superior potency compared to platinum drugs in endometrial and cervical cancer cell lines.
