osanetant

Osanetant is an orally bioavailable, brain-penetrating, non-peptide small molecule that acts as a selective antagonist of the neurokinin 3 receptor (NK3R), also known as the tachykinin 3 receptor. It was originally developed by Sanofi-Synthélabo (later Sanofi-Aventis) for the treatment of schizophrenia and other central nervous system disorders but development was discontinued in 2005 after phase II trials. Osanetant has also been investigated for potential use in treating vasomotor symptoms such as hot flashes in menopause and men on androgen deprivation therapy, and has shown preclinical activity suggesting possible applications in pain, anxiety, aggression related to social isolation or bereavement, and drug addiction. The compound demonstrates anxiolytic-like and antidepressant-like effects in animal models without acting as a depressant[1][2][3][4][5][7].
