Overview

Oseltamivir is an oral antiviral medication belonging to the neuraminidase inhibitor class. It is primarily used for the treatment and prevention of influenza A and B infections. Oseltamivir works by competitively inhibiting the viral neuraminidase enzyme, which prevents the release of new virions from infected cells, thereby limiting the spread of infection within the body. The drug is most effective when administered within 48 hours of symptom onset and can also be used prophylactically in individuals exposed to influenza. Oseltamivir was developed by Gilead Sciences and marketed globally by Roche under the brand name Tamiflu[1][2][5][7].
