Overview

HIP1403 (oseltamivir ammonium) is a neuraminidase inhibitor developed by Hanmi Pharmaceutical for the treatment and prophylaxis of influenza A and B. It is an alternative salt formulation of oseltamivir, designed to be bioequivalent to the original oseltamivir phosphate (Tamiflu) while utilizing a different salt to manage intellectual property and manufacturing considerations. As a prodrug, oseltamivir ammonium is converted in vivo to its active metabolite, oseltamivir carboxylate, which selectively inhibits the viral neuraminidase enzyme. This enzyme is essential for the release of newly formed viral particles from infected host cells; by blocking this process, HIP1403 prevents the spread of the virus within the respiratory tract. It is marketed in South Korea under the brand name Hanmiflu S.
