Overview

**Oseltamivir carboxylate** is the active metabolite of oseltamivir phosphate (marketed as Tamiflu), formed via hepatic hydrolysis after oral administration. It is a potent, selective inhibitor of the influenza virus enzyme neuraminidase, which is essential for viral replication and release from host cells. Oseltamivir carboxylate acts by competitively inhibiting the active site of neuraminidase, thereby halting the spread of infection within the respiratory tract. This leads to reduced viral titers, shortened symptom duration, and lower viral shedding in treated patients.
