oseltamivir phosphate (Austarpharma)

Oseltamivir phosphate (Austarpharma) is a generic version of the neuraminidase inhibitor Tamiflu, developed by Austarpharma, LLC (now known as Bostal LLC). It is a small molecule prodrug that is converted to its active metabolite, oseltamivir carboxylate, which selectively inhibits the neuraminidase enzyme found on the surface of influenza A and B viruses. By blocking this enzyme, the drug prevents the release of newly formed viral particles from infected host cells, thereby limiting the spread of the infection within the respiratory tract. It is indicated for the treatment and prophylaxis of influenza A and B infections. Austarpharma has conducted bioequivalence studies comparing its 75 mg capsule formulation, manufactured by Yangtze River Pharmaceutical, to the reference listed drug, Tamiflu.
