osengleset

Osengleset (code name KIB-035) is a novel small molecule antidepressant developed by the Kunming Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, in collaboration with Lunan Pharmaceutical. It is a structural derivative of gastrodin, a bioactive compound isolated from the traditional Chinese medicinal herb *Gastrodia elata*. Osengleset functions as a triple reuptake inhibitor (SNDRI), simultaneously inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine. This broad mechanism of action is intended to provide a more rapid and comprehensive therapeutic effect compared to traditional selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) by addressing multiple neurotransmitter pathways involved in mood regulation. As of 2024, the drug is in Phase 2 clinical development in China for the treatment of major depressive disorder.
