Overview

Osmium complex 1 is a non-specific designation used in academic research to refer to various organometallic osmium(II) compounds being evaluated as potential anticancer therapies. Because the name is a numerical label within specific studies, it identifies multiple distinct chemical structures. One notable example is the half-sandwich complex [Os(η6-p-cymene)(4-(2-pyridylazo)-N,N-dimethylaniline)I]PF6, which exhibits high potency against cancer cell lines, including epithelial ovarian cancer, by inducing reactive oxygen species (ROS), causing DNA damage, and shifting cellular metabolism from glycolysis to oxidative phosphorylation. Another compound under this name is an inhibitor of the HIF-1α–p300 protein-protein interaction. These compounds are currently in the discovery and preclinical research stages, primarily within academic laboratories, and have no associated commercial developer or brand name.
