Overview

Osmolife is a branded oral rehydration salt (ORS) product developed and marketed by the Ukrainian pharmaceutical company Arterium. It is indicated for the restoration of water and electrolyte balance in patients suffering from dehydration caused by acute infectious diarrhea, vomiting, or intense physical exertion. The formulation consists of a balanced mixture of glucose, sodium chloride, potassium chloride, and sodium citrate, adhering to standard rehydration therapy guidelines. Its primary mechanism of action involves the activation of the sodium-glucose cotransporter 1 (SGLT1) in the intestinal epithelium; the active transport of glucose coupled with sodium creates an osmotic gradient that promotes the passive absorption of water, even in the presence of secretory diarrhea. Osmolife is manufactured by Arterium's partners, including Halychpharm, and is available as a powder for oral solution.
