Overview

Osnelecit is a novel small molecule triple reuptake inhibitor (SNDRI) developed by the Kunming Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD). It acts by simultaneously inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin (5-HT), norepinephrine (NE), and dopamine (DA) from the synaptic cleft, thereby increasing the concentrations of these three key neurotransmitters. This "triple" mechanism is designed to provide broader therapeutic efficacy and a potentially faster onset of action compared to traditional selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) or serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs), particularly for patients with treatment-resistant depression or those experiencing significant anhedonia. The drug is currently undergoing clinical evaluation in China.
