Overview

OsrHSA (Oryza sativa recombinant Human Serum Albumin) is a plant-derived recombinant human serum albumin (rHSA) produced using the proprietary OryzHiExp rice endosperm-specific expression platform. Developed by Wuhan Healthgen Biotechnology, it is the first plant-derived blood product to receive FDA approval for clinical trials and is intended as a therapeutic equivalent to plasma-derived human serum albumin (pHSA). OsrHSA functions by maintaining plasma oncotic pressure and serving as a carrier protein for various endogenous and exogenous molecules, including hormones, fatty acids, and drugs. It is primarily being evaluated for the treatment of decompensated cirrhotic ascites, with additional development in indications such as hemorrhagic shock, burns, and edema.
