Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ossilex-AC (also known as Ossilex AC Ear Drop) is a fixed-dose combination topical otic formulation containing the broad-spectrum antibiotic chloramphenicol and the synthetic glucocorticoid prednisolone. Developed and marketed by Stadchem (Stadchem Of India), it is indicated for the treatment of bacterial ear infections accompanied by inflammatory symptoms such as redness, swelling, itching, and irritation. Chloramphenicol exerts its antibacterial effect by binding to the 50S subunit of the bacterial ribosome, thereby inhibiting peptidyl transferase activity and preventing bacterial protein synthesis. Prednisolone acts as an agonist of the glucocorticoid receptor, suppressing the transcription of pro-inflammatory genes and reducing the production of inflammatory mediators like prostaglandins. This dual-action formulation effectively eradicates the underlying bacterial infection while providing rapid relief from associated inflammation and discomfort.
