Drug intelligence / Profile preview
OsteoActivator-M (BT002) is an injectable, controlled-release drug delivery system developed by Osteopharma for the treatment of osteoarthritis, bone defects, and vertebral compression fractures. It consists of biodegradable poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) microspheres that provide sustained local release of two active ingredients: testosterone and alendronate. The mechanism of action is synergistic; testosterone stimulates osteoblast activity to promote bone formation, while alendronate, a bisphosphonate, inhibits osteoclast-mediated bone resorption. This dual action shifts the bone remodeling balance toward increased new bone formation. The microspheres are designed for local injection, such as intraosseous injection into subchondral bone, and release the therapeutic agents over a 4-6 week period.
