The OsteoGen plug is a resorbable, non-ceramic composite bone graft material developed by Impladent Ltd. It consists of a bovine Achilles tendon collagen matrix integrated with calcium apatite crystals. The plug is specifically designed for alveolar ridge preservation following tooth extraction, where it serves as an osteoconductive scaffold to support new bone formation and minimize ridge resorption. The collagen component helps stabilize the blood clot and provides a framework for cellular infiltration, while the calcium apatite crystals provide the mineral component necessary for bone regeneration. It is typically used in single-rooted extraction sockets to maintain bone volume for future dental implant placement. King Abdulaziz University has conducted clinical trials comparing this composite graft plug to traditional allografts for ridge preservation.
