Osteogenon is a bone-forming pharmaceutical complex composed of ossein and microcrystalline hydroxyapatite. It contains both an organic component (ossein), which includes non-collagenous proteins such as osteocalcin and growth factors (TGF-beta, IGF-I, IGF-II), and an inorganic component providing calcium and phosphorus in a physiological 2:1 ratio. The drug acts by stimulating osteoblast proliferation and differentiation, which promotes bone formation and mineralization, while also inhibiting bone resorption. It is primarily used as an adjunctive treatment for bone fractures, the prevention and treatment of primary and secondary osteoporosis (including steroid-induced), and to accelerate bone union in orthopedic procedures such as limb lengthening and nonunion repair.
