**Osteoinductive factor** is BioGend's recombinant protein drug candidate, an engineered recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-2 produced using an *Escherichia coli* microbial-expression system. It is intended to be locally implanted only after combination with a bone-filling scaffold, principally beta-tricalcium phosphate, where it stimulates osteogenesis and bone regeneration at fracture or bone-defect sites. BioGend is developing OIF-containing products for open tibial fractures, nonunion fractures, alveolar bone augmentation, medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw, and lumbar spinal fusion.
