Overview

Osteostatin is a pentapeptide fragment corresponding to amino acids 107-111 (Thr-Arg-Ser-Ala-Trp or TRSAW) of the C-terminus of parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTHrP). It is widely studied in preclinical models for its osteogenic, anti-resorptive, and anti-inflammatory properties. Osteostatin has been shown to stimulate osteoblast differentiation and bone formation while inhibiting osteoclastogenesis and bone resorption. It is being investigated for potential applications in bone regeneration, osteoporosis, fractures, and inflammatory joint conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and gouty arthritis, as well as its role in breast cancer bone colonization.
