Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ostrich antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 are **polyclonal egg yolk immunoglobulin Y antibodies** developed by Ostrich Pharma USA for the prevention and potential treatment of COVID-19. The product is generated by immunizing ostriches with SARS-CoV-2 spike-related antigens, including pseudovirus or spike protein, and then harvesting and purifying neutralizing IgY from ostrich eggs. These antibodies are intended to bind the **SARS-CoV-2 spike protein** and inhibit viral attachment to the **human angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 receptor**, thereby blocking viral entry at mucosal surfaces. Reported prophylactic formats include **nasal drops**, as well as antibody-impregnated face masks and candies, with clinical evaluation initiated in Japan for prevention of hospital-acquired coronavirus infection.
