OT-1005

OT-1005 is a topical ophthalmic formulation of azelastine hydrochloride, a small molecule antihistamine and mast cell stabilizer, being developed by Ocumension for the treatment of allergic conjunctivitis. It functions primarily as a potent and selective antagonist of the histamine H1 receptor, which helps alleviate acute allergic symptoms such as itching and redness. Additionally, it exhibits mast cell stabilizing properties, inhibiting the release of inflammatory mediators like leukotrienes and kinins from mast cells, thereby providing a dual mechanism of action for both immediate and sustained relief of ocular allergy symptoms. The drug is administered as eye drops.
