Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Otillen F is a gastric cytoprotective agent developed by Daewon Pharm, containing Artemisia herb 95% ethanol soft extract. It is approved in South Korea for the treatment of gastric mucosal lesions (erosion, hemorrhage, edema, and redness) associated with acute and chronic gastritis, as well as for the prevention of gastritis induced by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). The "F" designation refers to its formulation as a muco-adhesive floating tablet, a gastro-retentive delivery system that extends the drug's residence time in the stomach. This technological improvement allows for a reduced dosing frequency of twice daily (BID) compared to the three-times-daily (TID) regimen required by standard formulations. The therapeutic effect is primarily attributed to active flavones such as eupatilin and casticin, which stimulate the synthesis of endogenous prostaglandins and increase gastric mucus secretion to protect the stomach lining.
