Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Otitex (also known as Otitex Lösung) is a topical otic solution developed and marketed by the German pharmaceutical company Südmedica GmbH. It is a combination product containing ethanol, glycerol, and docusate sodium, formulated in a buffered aqueous base. Classified as a medical device, Otitex is used for the softening and removal of hardened earwax (cerumen). It is indicated for general ear hygiene, as a preparatory treatment before medical ear examinations or the application of local medications, and for the maintenance of ear canal cleanliness in hearing aid users. The product is available over-the-counter (OTC) in Germany and works through physical and chemical mechanisms rather than by binding to specific biological targets.
