Drug intelligence / Profile preview
OVACE Plus Shampoo is a topical prescription dermatological product developed by Espada Dermatology, a member of the Mission Family of Companies. It is specifically formulated as a shampoo containing 10% sodium sulfacetamide (100 mg per gram) for the treatment of seborrheic dermatitis and seborrhea sicca (dandruff) of the scalp. Sodium sulfacetamide is a small molecule sulfonamide antibacterial agent that exerts its effects by inhibiting bacterial folate synthesis. It acts as a competitive inhibitor of para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) for the enzyme dihydropteroate synthase (DHPS). This mechanism provides bacteriostatic activity against sensitive Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms, alongside antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. The product is FDA-approved and is typically applied to wet hair, massaged into the scalp, and rinsed thoroughly at least twice weekly.
