Ovarian granulosa-like cells (OGLCs) are a type of cell therapy derived from stem cells, such as Wharton's jelly-mesenchymal stem cells (WJ-MSCs) or human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). These cells are differentiated in vitro using specific growth factors and cocktails to express granulosa cell-specific markers. OGLCs are being investigated as a potential therapeutic approach for premature ovarian failure (POF), a reproductive disorder characterized by the loss of ovarian function. Their mechanism of action involves restoring ovarian function, promoting follicular development, and maintaining the ovarian tissue niche. This leads to the recovery of hormone levels, such as 17β-estradiol and follicle-stimulating hormone, and the upregulation of genes related to follicular development and primordial follicle activation, including those within the mTOR/PI3K pathway.
