Overview

Ovine-derived heparin refers to a suite of anticoagulant products, including heparin sodium and enoxaparin sodium, derived from sheep intestinal mucosa. Developed by Changshan Kaijiejian Biopharma, these products serve as Halal and Kosher-compliant alternatives to traditional porcine-derived heparin. The mechanism of action involves binding to antithrombin III, which significantly accelerates the inactivation of clotting factors such as Factor Xa and thrombin (Factor IIa), thereby inhibiting the coagulation cascade. These sheep-derived variants are intended for use in general anticoagulation and are currently in the pharmaceutical research stage.
