Overview

Ovine enoxaparin is a low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) anticoagulant derived from sheep (ovine) sources, as opposed to the traditional porcine-derived enoxaparin. It functions by enhancing the inhibition of coagulation factors Xa and IIa (thrombin), primarily through antithrombin III, thereby reducing blood clot formation. Ovine enoxaparin has been shown in clinical studies to be pharmacodynamically equivalent to porcine-derived enoxaparin (such as Lovenox), with similar anti-FXa and anti-FIIa activity, safety, and tolerability profiles after subcutaneous administration in healthy volunteers. The drug is intended for use in the prevention and treatment of thromboembolic disorders such as deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism[7].
