Overview
Ovine interleukin-1 alpha (ovIL-1 alpha) is a pro-inflammatory cytokine belonging to the interleukin-1 family, specifically derived from sheep (*Ovis aries*). It is a recombinant protein that acts as a potent mediator of the immune response, produced primarily by activated macrophages. Like its human counterpart, ovIL-1 alpha binds to the interleukin-1 receptor (IL-1R), initiating signaling cascades that lead to the expression of inflammatory genes, activation of T and B lymphocytes, and induction of fever. In veterinary research, recombinant ovIL-1 alpha is utilized to characterize the ovine immune system, develop diagnostic assays, and generate specific monoclonal antibodies for immunological studies in livestock.
