Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Ovral (also known as Ov-RAL-2) is a preclinical-stage recombinant protein subunit vaccine candidate being developed by Vaxine Pty Ltd under the VaxCelerate Consortium. The vaccine is designed to target the RAL-2 antigen of *Onchocerca volvulus* and the closely related cattle parasite *Onchocerca ochengi* to prevent onchocerciasis (river blindness), a debilitating neglected tropical disease. Formulated with Vaxine's proprietary Advax adjuvant platform (such as Advax-2 or Advax-CpG), Ovral aims to induce a robust, protective, and Th2-biased immune response characterized by high titers of antigen-specific IgG antibodies. This immune response facilitates the clearance of infective larvae, offering a potential prophylactic tool to support mass drug administration campaigns.
