Drug intelligence / Profile preview
OVX-001 is a once-daily topical ophthalmic formulation of brimonidine, a selective alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonist, developed by Ocuvex Therapeutics for the management of open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension. The drug utilizes the patented TearAct™ fine resin technology, which incorporates brimonidine into resin microparticles within a complex suspension. This delivery system is designed to provide slow, consistent, and sustained release of the active ingredient, reducing the dosing frequency to once daily compared to the two or three times daily dosing required by conventional brimonidine formulations. Originally developed by Visiox Pharmaceuticals as PDP-716, the product was integrated into the Ocuvex pipeline following the merger of the two companies and received FDA approval in 2023.
