OVX033 is a first-in-class, nucleocapsid-based vaccine candidate developed by Osivax for the prevention of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and other sarbecovirus infections. Unlike most current COVID-19 vaccines that target the spike (S) protein, OVX033 targets the highly conserved internal nucleocapsid (N) protein of SARS-CoV-2 and related coronaviruses. This approach aims to induce a broad-spectrum immune response—both T-cell and B-cell mediated—potentially providing protection against all current and future variants of SARS-CoV-2 as well as other pandemic-prone coronaviruses. The vaccine uses Osivax’s proprietary oligoDOM technology platform to produce recombinant N protein that self-assembles into nanoparticles, enhancing immunogenicity. Preclinical studies have demonstrated cross-protective efficacy in animal models against multiple SARS-CoV-2 variants[1][6][8][9].
