Drug intelligence / Profile preview
OWP-105 is an oral liquid formulation of zonisamide, a small molecule anticonvulsant being developed by OWP Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of neurological disorders, specifically epilepsy and seizures. Zonisamide exerts its therapeutic effects through multiple mechanisms, primarily by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels and T-type calcium channels, which suppresses neuronal hypersynchronization and abnormal electrical activity in the brain. It also acts as a weak carbonic anhydrase inhibitor. OWP-105 is designed as an oral liquid alternative to traditional solid dosage forms, aiming to improve ease of administration and compliance in pediatric, geriatric, and other patient populations who have difficulty swallowing tablets or capsules. The candidate is currently in preclinical development.
