Drug intelligence / Profile preview
OX125 is a clinical-stage intranasal rescue medication developed by Orexo for the treatment of opioid overdose. It consists of a small molecule formulation of nalmefene, a potent opioid receptor antagonist that binds to mu, kappa, and delta opioid receptors to reverse life-threatening respiratory depression. The drug utilizes Orexo's proprietary AmorphOX technology, an intranasal powder-based delivery platform designed for rapid absorption and high bioavailability. Nalmefene's longer half-life compared to naloxone provides a more sustained duration of opioid blockade, which is particularly advantageous for preventing renarcotization (second overdose) and addressing overdoses caused by long-acting synthetic opioids like fentanyl.
