Drug intelligence / Profile preview
OX390 is an investigational small molecule new chemical entity (NCE) being developed by Orexo in partnership with the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA). It is designed as a rescue medication to reverse respiratory depression associated with illicit opioid overdoses, specifically those involving opioids adulterated with alpha-2 adrenergic agonists such as xylazine or medetomidine. The drug utilizes Orexo's proprietary AmorphOX® dry-powder technology for intranasal delivery, which is intended to provide rapid drug exposure and high stability. OX390 is intended for community-based use by first responders and laypersons to address the growing public health crisis of adulterated fentanyl overdoses, often referred to as 'tranq' overdoses.
