OXA series

OXA series is a line of branded-generic combination pharmaceutical products developed and marketed by Ravian Pharmaceuticals. These formulations typically combine the fluoroquinolone antibiotic ofloxacin with a nitroimidazole derivative, either metronidazole or ornidazole. Ofloxacin acts by inhibiting DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which are essential for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, and repair. Metronidazole and ornidazole are prodrugs that, when reduced in anaerobic environments, form reactive intermediates that cause DNA strand breakage. These combinations are primarily used to treat mixed aerobic and anaerobic infections, such as gastrointestinal infections, pelvic inflammatory disease, and dental infections.
