Overview

Oxabolone is a synthetic anabolic-androgenic steroid (AAS) of the nandrolone (19-nortestosterone) group. It was never marketed in its base form but can be formulated as the cipionate ester prodrug oxabolone cipionate, which has been used medically. Oxabolone acts primarily by binding to androgen receptors in target tissues such as muscle and bone, leading to increased protein synthesis and nitrogen retention. These effects result in muscle growth and enhanced recovery. Like other anabolic steroids, it is associated with both anabolic (muscle-building) and androgenic (masculinizing) effects. Oxabolone is on the World Anti-Doping Agency's list of prohibited substances due to its performance-enhancing properties[2][3][4][6][8].
